The Andhra Pradesh government have recently launched the Pravasandhra Bharosa Bima (PBB) insurance scheme for students and individuals studying and working abroad respectively. The scheme will provide coverage up to INR 10 lakhs in case of an unfortunate event. Overseas students who belong to Andhra Pradesh can enrol in the scheme for free up to January 15, 2024. The state government issued the details of the insurance scheme in their statement. 

What is the PBB Scheme?

PBB or the Pravasandhra Bharosa Bima scheme has been launched by the Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS) under the state government. Under the scheme, all the students who are residents of the state of Andhra Pradesh can avail the scheme and a cover of up to INR 10 lakh will be provided if the insured suffers unforeseen incidents like death or permanent disability. The scheme is available for students who are studying and working abroad. All such students who are eligible for the scheme are supposed to enrol in the scheme as soon as possible. 

In case of a delay, the premium may increase and the benefits may decrease. Currently, the premium for the scheme is INR 550 for three years for working individuals and INR 150 for one year for students, which will be required to be paid post-January 15, 2024.

Purpose of the PBB Scheme 

The president of Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS), Shri Venkat S Medapati, stated that the family members of the students shall invest in the overseas education of their children so that they can have a bright future. He also said that the scheme has been launched to encourage the students to study abroad and if they fall victim to any unfortunate event, then the family will get financial assistance easily.

Benefits of the PBB Scheme for Employees

  • Any individual working abroad will get financial assistance of up to INR 10 lakhs in case of accidental death or permanent disability.
  • Medical expenses for injuries or sickness will be provided to the individuals working abroad of INR 1 lakh.
  • In case of discontinuation of work due to medical issues or accidents, the insured can claim a one-way economy class air ticket along with one attendant.
  • Maternity benefits of amount up to INR 35,000/- will be provided for Normal delivery and up to INR 50,000/- for caesarean delivery.
  • An amount of INR 50,000 will be provided for medical expenses every year to the nominated family member if hospitalised in case of the death of the insured.
  • In case of any employment litigation, an amount of INR 45000 will be provided to the individual.

How to Apply for the PBB Scheme

The application process for the PBB Scheme is completely online. You can purchase the insurance policy by submitting the online application form. The insurance enrollment form is available on the official website of APNRTS. Check the steps to enrol below:

  • Visit the official website of APNRTS i.e. apnrts.gov.in
  • Go to the ‘services’ tab and click on ‘insurance’ from the dropdown
  • Click on enrollment and registration
  • Fill out the enrollment form properly
  • Upload the documents
  • Submit the application form and pay the policy amount (if applicable)

Eligibility Criteria for the PBB Scheme

Pravasandhra Bharosa Bima (PBB) insurance scheme is an accidental insurance scheme. It has some specific eligibility criteria which you need to fulfil. Check the details of the major eligibility criteria below:

  • The minimum age of the policyholder shall be 18 years and the maximum 60 years
  • You must be a permanent resident of Andhra Pradesh. 
  • You must be working or studying in a foreign country

  • In the case of bulk insurance for financially backward expatriates, it will be accepted through donor or APNRTS coordinators.
